I am a husband and father of two who loves the feeling of completing a project. My father is a retired marine who owned his own construction company and passed down his skills/knowledge to me.
In 2016 we bought our current home with just shy of an acre of property which was awesome considering our last property was only 0.25 of an acre.
This property offered us a great opportunity to make some fun stuff for the kids to do around the house. One of those things was creating a mountain bike trail for the kids to practice with at home.
You can check out that mountain bike article here.
One of the problems that I encountered on most of my earlier projects in our yard (and some inside projects) was not coming up with a solid game plan to tackle the project in our backyard.
This almost always led to the project taking much longer to complete, never turning out like I originally planned or never being completed.
Part of this problem was simply trying to tackle things too quickly after my wife and I came up with the idea.
The goal of this site is to help others create a solid game plan to help with projects like creating a usable yard, kid-friendly projects, understanding what your limitations are with your backyard and how to possibly use them to your advantage.
First and foremost, I am a husband and father of two. My other jobs; IT Enterprise Reporting Manager with a team of 5, Cub Master for my sons Cub Scout Pack, and since 2016 I have run my own company on the side that first started with Google Analytics.
I have always been pretty active and in the past ran in a few marathons before hurting my knee playing with my son in the backyard of our last house. This was when I really started getting into mountain biking.
We moved into our current home after Christmas 2016 and I was in heaven because our lot size tripled and there was a lot of potential.
What I found in the years since moving in was that I had a lot of things I wanted to do but found I was having difficulty making things cohesive.
As I was redesigning my backyard mountain bike trail and thinking about my www.mymtbgear.com site, I realized that I needed to come up with a game plan for the backyard to really flow together and look good.
This is where this site was envisioned. The goal is to come up with a comprehensive game plan for the backyard that will allow the home owner to have a good understanding of what is possible in their space.
Once you know what could be possible then you can decide what to tackle and when to tackle them.
My property contains a septic system, propane tank, setbacks and drainage easement. This site will also take these things into account during this process and will aim to help answer some of the typical questions that may come up over time.
